Tithonia, commonly known as Mexican Sunflower, has vibrant bursts of fiery blooms and is one of our favorite summer flowers to incorporate into our garden. The plant also thrives in various soil conditions, including areas with poor soil, and it does well in hot, dry climates. This makes tihonia perfect for Texas gardens.

Tithonia in the Garden Ecosystem

Tithonia attracts pollinators and offers a source of nectar for butterflies and bees. Its dense leafy foliage also offers abundant biomass for suppressing weeds, preserving moisture, protecting the soil from the harsh sun, and enriching the soil with organic matter. It's deep, extensive root system helps aerate the soil and bring nutrients up to the surface. It also provides some shade to the plants below, making it easier to tuck little plant starts into the garden in the heat of the summer.
